Housing Director Rebecca Garcia Leaves Lasting Legacy in Morgan Hill

During a recent government meeting, the city of Morgan Hill bid farewell to Rebecca Garcia, the outgoing housing director, who is set to join the Santa Clara County Housing Authority. Over her nine-year tenure, Garcia has been pivotal in advancing housing programs within the city, including the development of 178 permanent supportive and rapid rehousing units, which were funded through $28.9 million from Santa Clara County Measure A.

Garcia's collaborative approach and resourcefulness have been instrumental in implementing various housing solutions, such as workforce housing initiatives, safe parking programs, cold weather shelters, and services for the homeless. Her leadership in the city's inclusionary ordinance and the management of the below market rate program have established some of the most robust housing programs in the county and region.

Edith Ramirez, the assistant city manager, praised Garcia's dedication and the strong relationships she built during her time in Morgan Hill. Ramirez emphasized the importance of Garcia's work, stating that her heart and commitment to equitable housing policies have laid a solid foundation for the community.
