Council approves emergency fire restrictions amid rising threats

In a recent meeting of the Butte Silver Bow Council of Commissioners, the body approved the minutes from the July 10, 2024, regular meeting with a unanimous vote of 11-0. Following this, the council addressed an urgent matter requiring the suspension of its rules to add a new resolution to the agenda for the upcoming July 24, 2024, meeting.

Commissioner Shea introduced the motion to suspend the rules, citing an emergency condition that necessitated the addition of Resolution 2024-29. This resolution, presented by the Zach Osborne Fire Department, seeks authorization for the implementation of Stage 1 fire restrictions within the city and county. The urgency stems from the Northern Rockies coordination group’s decision to enforce fire restrictions starting after midnight on July 25, 2024, which left insufficient time for the standard submission process.

The council unanimously approved the motion to suspend the rules, allowing for the resolution to be considered at the next meeting. This proactive measure underscores the council's commitment to addressing public safety concerns related to fire hazards in the region.
