Imperial Valley honors 9/11 heroes with memorial stair climb

In a recent city council meeting, Mayor Pauline Javier Moreno and council members addressed several key issues, including a moment of silence for recent violence and the upcoming Imperial Valley 911 Memorial event.

The meeting commenced with a prayer led by Pastor Eduardo Tesenia, emphasizing the need for wisdom and collaboration among council members. Mayor Moreno then called for a moment of silence to honor victims of recent violence, highlighting the importance of peace in the community.

Following this, the council moved to administrative matters, including the approval of the agenda. Notably, they decided to table item number 13, which pertains to the adoption of a resolution for a special tax in Hartfield, for discussion at a future meeting.

The highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Edgar Quinones regarding the 11th annual Imperial Valley 911 Memorial stair climb, scheduled for September 7, 2024. This event commemorates the heroes of September 11, 2001, with participants climbing the equivalent of 110 stories in honor of fallen firefighters, law enforcement, and emergency personnel. Early registration is currently open, with opportunities for sponsorship and vendor participation to enhance the event's success.

The meeting concluded with plans to reconvene in closed session to continue discussions on pending items.
