Superintendent signs new contract amid heartfelt farewells

Mister Hawkins, who has dedicated 22 years to the Las Cruces community, expressed heartfelt gratitude as he prepares to transition to a new role in Albuquerque. The meeting also included the approval of the 2024-2025 School Resource Officer (SRO) agreements with both the city of Las Cruces and the town of Mesilla, with both motions passing unanimously. These agreements are expected to enhance safety and support within the schools.

Additionally, the board approved a new contract for Superintendent Ruiz, effective July 1, 2024, which will extend through June 30, 2026. The contract includes a salary of $220,000 per year and a supplemental retirement plan. Board members expressed their confidence in Ruiz's leadership, highlighting the positive direction of the district under his guidance.
