Skate School Soars with New Champion Coaching Family

During a recent government meeting, the Pelham Civic Complex showcased significant growth in its figure skating programs, attributed to the leadership of newly appointed skating director Christian Newberry. Since his arrival in January, the complex has seen a remarkable increase in participation: learn-to-skate programs are up by 25%, figure skating freestyle participation has surged by nearly 70%, and public skating numbers have risen by 56%.

Newberry, a former national champion and seasoned coach with over 35 years of experience, expressed enthusiasm about the potential for further development in Pelham. He highlighted the supportive community and staff, which have facilitated a positive environment for growth. Newberry's family is also involved in the program, with his son Graham coaching and plans for additional family members to join the staff in October.

The meeting underscored the complex's ambition to become the premier figure skating training center in the Southeast, with Newberry's leadership seen as a pivotal factor in achieving this goal. The council welcomed Newberry and his family, expressing optimism for the future of figure skating in Pelham.
