City plans exciting open house and July 4 celebration

During the recent city council meeting, several community events and initiatives were discussed, highlighting ongoing efforts to engage residents and improve local infrastructure.

One of the key announcements was an open house scheduled for Saturday at the Ralph Fair Road firehouse, also known as Station 132. The event, running from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will feature participation from the police and fire departments, as well as Acadian emergency services. Notably, a helicopter is expected to land at the event, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to learn about emergency air medical services and view new ambulances.

Additionally, the city has partnered with the local country club to host the July 4 celebration on the driving range. The festivities will commence at 6:00 p.m., culminating in a fireworks display at dark. This year’s event will include improvements based on feedback from last year’s celebration.

The council also announced the commencement of the annual road maintenance program, which will run through July 18. Residents are advised to exercise caution as crews will be working throughout the city. Furthermore, GVTC is set to begin installing a fiber optic cable network, starting at the intersection of Fair Oaks Parkway and Ralph Fair Road.

Looking ahead, the next council meeting is scheduled for July 18, following the cancellation of the meeting originally planned for July 4. A proposal was raised to establish a committee involving community members to discuss the future of a civic or community center, indicating a proactive approach to civic engagement and development.
