City urges residents to conserve water amid extreme drought

During a recent city council meeting, several key announcements were made regarding community services and ongoing infrastructure projects.

The council highlighted the upcoming bulk trash and brush pickup schedule, which will commence on August 5 for sector one, August 12 for sector two, and August 19 for sector three. Residents are encouraged to contact city hall for information on their designated sectors and to begin placing items out for collection the week prior to their scheduled pickup.

Additionally, the council provided updates on the Fox Falls sewer line project, which has caused road closures along Fair Oaks Parkway. While the inbound portion of the parkway was reopened, the southbound lane remains closed at the intersection with Leslie Pfeiffer. The anticipated closure duration is approximately two to three weeks, with signs posted to guide drivers.

A critical reminder was issued regarding the ongoing extreme drought conditions affecting the area. The mayor emphasized the importance of water conservation, urging residents to adhere to watering schedules and use water only for essential purposes. The city is currently in stage two of its drought contingency plan, with a warning that moving to stage three would indicate an emergency situation.

Lastly, the council addressed a planned power outage that had been postponed. Coordination with CPS Energy and TxDOT is ongoing to minimize the impact on residents, with expectations that fewer than 1,300 households will be affected when the outage is rescheduled.
