Menifee businesses rally for safety amid rising crime wave

During a recent city council meeting in Menifee, business owners and community members expressed growing concerns over rising security issues affecting local establishments. Chef Rosie O'Connor, owner of Lady and Bistro, highlighted a troubling trend of vandalism and break-ins, particularly targeting new businesses. She recounted multiple incidents, including rocks being thrown through windows and attempted break-ins, which have created an unsanitary environment that deters customers.

O'Connor emphasized the need for community support to address these challenges, urging city officials to enhance safety measures in the area, particularly in Sun City, which she described as less beautified compared to other parts of Menifee. She expressed hope that the city council would take action to support local businesses and improve the overall environment.

Council members acknowledged the concerns raised, with discussions about ongoing efforts to address homelessness and its impact on local businesses. Councilman Estrada mentioned the establishment of an Innovation District aimed at attracting high-paying jobs to the area, while Councilman Sobeck proposed an update from the police department regarding homeless regulations.

In addition to security issues, the meeting also covered various community events and initiatives, including the opening of the new Menifee courthouse and plans for a four-year university in Southwest Riverside County.
