Residents demand action as traffic crisis escalates

Residents of Brentwood voiced strong concerns during a recent government meeting regarding the impact of new housing developments on local traffic conditions. One resident highlighted the significant population growth in Brentwood, which surged from approximately 63,374 in 2017 to 65,927 today, translating to thousands of additional vehicles on local roads. The resident criticized a consulting firm’s traffic study, claiming it was outdated and failed to account for recent developments, including two new housing projects and a recently opened apartment complex near Sand Creek Road.

Another speaker, Sue Harper, reiterated concerns raised in a previous meeting, noting that the planning commission seemed unaware of the traffic challenges faced by residents in Shadow Lakes and Brentwood Hills. She emphasized the overwhelming traffic congestion during school hours, with thousands of car trips generated by local students. Harper pointed out that the traffic study did not adequately reflect the reality of the situation, as it overlooked the broader context of ongoing developments in the area.

Residents called for a more thorough and updated traffic study, arguing that the current assessments do not accurately represent the growing traffic challenges. They urged public officials to prioritize the health and safety of residents and consider rejecting new housing applications that could worsen traffic conditions.
