Heavy rain forecast raises flood concerns for local communities

In a recent government meeting, key announcements and discussions highlighted upcoming community events and weather-related safety concerns. Public Information Officer Carmen Davila announced that the Malcolm Brown Football and Cheerleading Camp will be held on June 21 at the Cibolo Multi Event Center from 6 PM to 10 PM. Additionally, the Seguin Freedom Fiesta is scheduled for the following Saturday in Central Park Seguin, running from 6 PM to 11 PM. The officials also noted that several Fourth of July events will be added to the community calendar.

Commissioner discussions focused on the potential for significant rainfall due to a developing disturbance in the Gulf. Forecasts suggest that the area could receive between 3 to 8 inches of rain, raising concerns about low water crossings and road safety. The Commissioner urged residents to exercise caution, particularly in light of recent developments that may lead to flooding in areas that have not previously experienced such issues.

Concerns were also raised regarding the condition of local roads, specifically a chip seal job on Market Road 775, which has become dangerously slick due to oil exposure. The Commissioner inquired about possible measures that TxDOT could take to mitigate the hazards, such as applying lime or sand to the affected areas.

The meeting concluded with reminders about the upcoming Independence Day holiday, during which the court will be closed on July 4 and 5. The next regularly scheduled commissioner's court will take place on July 2 at 10 AM.
