Rookie Teacher of the Year Inspires Students with Generosity

During a recent government meeting, the Orange Burr County School District celebrated the achievements of its educators and alumni, highlighting the impact of dedicated individuals on the community.

Keyshawn Harris, a rookie teacher from Whitaker Elementary School, was honored as the Rookie Teacher of the Year. This recognition was awarded at the Neo Academy banquet, where Harris was nominated by administrators and selected by a committee for his outstanding contributions to education. Mayor Michael C. Butler commended Harris in a letter, praising his enthusiasm, commitment, and the positive learning environment he has fostered. Harris's initiatives, such as awarding gift cards to high-achieving students, were noted as exemplary efforts to motivate and inspire his pupils.

The meeting also recognized Takara Tolan, a distinguished alumna of North High School and head coach of the Clinton College Women's Basketball Team. Tolan was acknowledged for her mentorship and dedication to developing young athletes, as well as her active involvement in community service. Her leadership has led to significant success for her team, and she continues to inspire the next generation by returning to her alma mater to support students.

Superintendent Dr. Foster concluded the meeting with gratitude, thanking parents, students, and teachers for their contributions to another successful school year. He emphasized the importance of community support in achieving educational goals and reflected on the journey the district has undertaken over the past four years.
