Broadview celebrates successful Juneteenth with record attendance

During a recent government meeting, the Broadview Board of Trustees approved a series of motions, including the consent agenda totaling $819,629.62, which passed unanimously with a vote of 6-0. The agenda included various items, with two additional contracts for overhead doors and floor refurbishing expected to be presented at the August meeting. The timeline for the completion of ongoing construction projects may extend into winter due to material lead times.

The board also approved two business licenses: one for Chickawolf LLC, a dog grooming salon located at 21 21 West Roosevelt Road, and another for Terrific Tots Home Daycare at 3028 South 24th Avenue, which will provide care for children aged six weeks to 13 years. Both businesses have met all necessary inspections and compliance requirements.

In her report, Mayor Katrina Thompson highlighted the success of the recent Juneteenth celebration, which attracted between 4,500 to 5,000 attendees over three days, with no reported incidents. She praised the collaboration among local departments and community members that contributed to the event's success. The mayor also reminded residents of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, urging them to be mindful of veterans and pets during fireworks celebrations, and emphasized the village's firework ordinance, which includes fines for violations.

The meeting concluded with a call for continued community engagement and support for local initiatives, reflecting the board's commitment to fostering a vibrant and safe environment in Broadview.
