Community rallies to support families after tragic violence

During a recent board meeting, community leaders expressed their condolences and support following a tragic incident at Brooklyn's Plaza splash pad in Rochester Hills. Trustee Silvery addressed the board, sharing his personal experience of being at Innovation Hills Park with his family when the violence occurred. He emphasized the emotional toll on families present and the community at large, noting the fear and confusion that children may experience in the aftermath.

To assist those affected, the district has mobilized resources, including counseling services available at Reuther Middle School and through the Oakland Community Health Network. Silvery highlighted the collaborative efforts of local officials, including Rochester Hills Mayor Bridal Barnett and Captain Russ Eiser of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, who provided timely support during the crisis.

The meeting also featured a spotlight on the annual Try High Charity Week, led by student councils from Adams, Rochester, and Stoney Creek High Schools. Principal Pasquale Cusimano announced that this year's charity, Humble Design, received an unprecedented donation of $93,437.96 from the students. Humble Design is dedicated to furnishing homes for families and veterans transitioning out of homelessness. Student leaders shared their motivation for selecting this charity, emphasizing the importance of transforming houses into homes and addressing homelessness in their community.

The board unanimously approved the meeting agenda, reflecting a commitment to both community support and student engagement in charitable initiatives.
