Grimes County Fair Achieves Record Sales and Community Support

In a recent government meeting, Grimes County Fair Board President Colton McCullough presented a positive recap of the 2024 Grimes County Fair, which concluded on June 7. The fair saw participation from 439 exhibitors, including approximately 150 horse show participants, marking a successful turnout. Sales during the event reached approximately $869,000, with overall sales figures hovering just under $900,000 in recent years.

McCullough attributed the fair's success to significant improvements made at the fairgrounds, particularly in drainage and facility maintenance, which allowed for better management of the torrential rain that occurred during the event. He noted that the enhancements made navigating the barns easier and helped mitigate challenges posed by the weather, a stark contrast to previous years.

The fair also had a notable economic impact on local businesses, with increased patronage reported at nearby restaurants and gas stations. McCullough highlighted the fair's unique achievement of implementing a 0% commission on sales for the first time in history, allowing participants to retain the full amount of their bids. This initiative was made possible through a long-term agreement with the county and the support of local officials.

The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude towards the county's maintenance division and commissioners for their ongoing support, which has been crucial in fostering a successful fair environment.
