Passport applications surge as travel rebounds in Lubbock

In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted the successful resurgence of passport application services in Lubbock County, which had been suspended due to COVID-19. Since resuming operations on March 1, 2023, the county has processed a significant number of applications, reflecting a growing demand for travel.

For fiscal year 2023, Lubbock County reported $32,795 in application fees from 937 passport applications. In the current fiscal year 2024, the figures have risen sharply, with $40,565 collected from 1,159 applications in just four months. This increase underscores a robust recovery in travel-related services as more residents seek to obtain passports.

Officials expressed pride in the service provided, noting positive feedback from the public regarding the professionalism and friendliness of the staff overseeing the passport process. The meeting emphasized the importance of these services not only for facilitating travel but also for generating revenue for the county's general fund.
