Community unites to build new playground in Campbelltown

Jennifer Busch, representing the Campbelltown Community Alliance (CCA), presented an update on the successful completion of a community playground project at Campbelltown Community Park during a recent government meeting. The project, which began planning in late 2021, was funded through a $25,000 matching grant from the Lebanon County Commissioners, alongside an additional $70,616 grant from South Londonderry Township.

Busch highlighted the community's efforts in raising the matching funds within a year, thanks to local businesses and residents. Over 200 hours were dedicated to planning, grant writing, and coordinating with various partners, including Willow Play Works and Eli Associates. The playground was built with the help of over 70 volunteers, contributing approximately 560 hours of labor on the build day, October 28, 2023. The playground officially opened on November 4, 2023, and has already seen enthusiastic use from local children.

The CCA expressed gratitude to the Lebanon County Commissioners for their support and acknowledged the contributions of local sponsors, including Graphics for T-shirts and Steak for food and beverages on the build day. The project exemplifies community collaboration and the effective use of grant funding.

In addition to the playground update, the meeting addressed several other topics, including the approval of tax exemptions for disabled veterans and a grant application for sidewalk replacements at the MH IDE building. The board also reviewed three applications for hotel tax grants, noting that the available funds are currently limited. Proposed changes to grant guidelines were discussed, emphasizing the importance of hotel usage for events funded by these grants. The board plans to revisit these guidelines in a future meeting.
