Council meeting erupts over ceasefire demands

During a recent government meeting, activist Najee Ali urged council members to consider a ceasefire resolution, highlighting the ongoing conflict that has prompted his appeal. Although his request was met with appreciation, it was noted that the topic was not on the agenda for discussion.

The meeting saw further disruption when Avraham Stern, a Jewish American with ties to Israel, also called for a ceasefire and divestment from arms. His comments, however, were similarly dismissed as they did not pertain to the agenda. Following repeated interruptions, Stern was removed from the meeting for disrupting proceedings.

As the meeting progressed, council member Harris Dawson proposed the adoption of two resolutions, which were approved without objection. The council then moved on to discuss a city attorney report regarding a special election scheduled for November 5, 2024. This election will include a proposed charter amendment concerning the Los Angeles Police Department's Board of Rights, consolidating it with the city's general municipal election and the state general election.

The meeting concluded with council member McCosker present to provide comments on the upcoming election matters, signaling a shift in focus from public commentary to legislative business.
