Concerns rise over drag show contract in Indian Trail

During a recent government meeting in Indian Trail, community concerns were raised regarding traffic safety and an upcoming public event. Residents expressed frustration over persistent traffic violations, particularly at stop signs, with one resident suggesting that retired officers could be utilized to enforce traffic laws more effectively. The resident proposed that a retired officer could issue tickets, potentially improving compliance and safety in the neighborhood.

Additionally, Doug Criswell, a long-time resident, voiced his concerns about the Union County Bridal event scheduled for Saturday. He highlighted that the rental fee for the event was waived for non-profit organizations, questioning the financial transparency of the group organizing the event, which he noted had sponsorships from law firms and other businesses. Criswell expressed apprehension about the event's suitability for children, suggesting that there should be age restrictions for attendees unless accompanied by an adult.

Criswell also raised issues regarding the event's contract, questioning its validity and the appropriateness of hosting a drag show in a park typically used for sports. He pointed out inconsistencies in the contract and the lack of clarity regarding merchandise sales at the event, emphasizing the need for clearer guidelines to protect children in the community.

In response to these concerns, council members acknowledged the need for updates to the park rental agreements, which have not been revised in years. They confirmed that while the current contract remains valid, there are inconsistencies that need to be addressed. The council is in the process of updating the agreement to ensure it aligns with current community standards and expectations.
