Residents of Cheshire are rallying against the proposed installation of a cell tower on King Road, which they argue poses a significant threat to their community. During a recent government meeting, a local resident highlighted the urgency of the situation, emphasizing that the deadline for opposing the tower is fast approaching.
The resident reported that within just two days, they gathered 96 signatures from concerned neighbors opposing the tower's location, which is alarmingly close—only 85 feet—from a nearby home. They urged local officials to take action, reminding them that their primary responsibility is to represent the residents, not the interests of the telecommunications companies involved.
The resident pointed out that in the past three years, the Connecticut Siting Council has never approved a tower closer than 235 feet to residences, making the proposed location unprecedented and potentially harmful. They called on the council to formally oppose the application, referencing docket number 521, before the impending deadline.
In response to the community's concerns, the council indicated that they would discuss the matter in an executive session later that evening, considering strategies for intervening in the Siting Council's proceedings. The town attorney noted that discussions regarding potential claims or litigation would be appropriate for this private meeting.
As the deadline looms, the residents of King Road remain hopeful that their voices will be heard and that local officials will advocate on their behalf against the cell tower's installation.
