Landowner exposes illegal dumping and unpermitted construction activities

In a recent government meeting, a local resident raised serious concerns regarding ongoing illicit land use activities adjacent to their property, specifically involving the Baileys, who have allegedly transformed their property into a commercial construction yard without the necessary permits. The resident detailed numerous violations, including the storage of unpermitted materials, the construction of towering piles of debris, and the improper disposal of toxic liquids.

The resident reported that the Baileys have been using their property for commercial purposes, contrary to the permit stipulations that allow only for farm use, such as storing tractors and hay. They highlighted the presence of numerous semis and other vehicles stored on the property, which have been there for extended periods, raising questions about compliance with local regulations.

Additionally, the resident provided evidence, including over 300 videos and photos, to the building official but has yet to receive a response. They expressed frustration over the lack of action from Spokane County, despite multiple investigations by the Department of Ecology into the alleged illegal activities, including the dumping of hazardous materials.

Commissioner French inquired about the legal progress regarding the property owner, acknowledging the issue's complexity and its potential legacy impact on both the county and the involved parties. The meeting underscored the ongoing challenges in addressing land use violations and the need for effective regulatory enforcement.
