Fitchburg tourism thrives with record visitor engagement

Fitchburg's tourism sector has reported a successful year, with significant contributions to the local economy and job market. During a recent government meeting, officials highlighted that tourism sustains one in 21 jobs across Wisconsin, with Dane County experiencing a 4.8% employment increase in the industry from 2022. The state welcomed approximately 113 million trips, underscoring the sector's vital role in economic growth.

The tourism entity for Fitchburg is actively engaged in promoting the city as a business and leisure destination. Their efforts include producing 18,000 copies of the Fitchburg Business and Visitor Welcome Guide, creating popular biking maps, and maintaining a monthly newsletter with over 4,000 subscribers. The city has also seen a 27% increase in web traffic and enhanced social media engagement, reflecting a growing interest in local events and attractions.

Upcoming events include the Kelly Moss Motor Show and an expanded holiday lights tour, which will kick off with a tree lighting ceremony at the Agora on December 13. Additionally, the Burpee Derby has transitioned to the Birdie Derby under new organizers, ensuring the continuation of this signature Thanksgiving Day event.

Officials emphasized the importance of collaboration with local partners, including Destination Madison and Travel Wisconsin, to further enhance Fitchburg's appeal as a tourist destination.
