Library Friends Donate $125000 to Boost Summer Reading Program

During a recent city council meeting, the Friends of the William Public Library made a significant donation of $125,000 to support community programs, particularly the library's long-standing summer reading initiative. Library Services Director Pimani Matsuti expressed gratitude for the contribution, highlighting the impact it has on local children and the community at large.

Matsuti noted that the funds are primarily raised through the sale of used books, which are sold at affordable prices, making the library's bookstore a popular destination throughout Southern California. He emphasized the importance of the summer reading program, which has been a staple for over 40 years, and mentioned that approximately 1,600 children have already signed up for this year's program.

The meeting also included a certificate of accommodation presented to the Friends of the Library, recognizing their ongoing support and commitment to enhancing literacy and educational opportunities in the community.
