In a recent meeting, District 202 celebrated the achievements of its students, highlighting the 42 graduates who earned the Illinois Seal of Biliteracy. This prestigious recognition is awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and another language, requiring them to pass an advanced placement exam with a score of 3 or higher. Since its inception in 2018, the seal has encouraged bilingualism among students, showcasing their mastery of multiple languages.
The meeting also acknowledged the accomplishments of Marcellus Moore, a Plainfield North graduate and current Texas Longhorn, who competed in the Olympic trials. Moore, who holds the Illinois state record in the 100-meter dash, finished 15th with a personal best time of 10.05 seconds, earning praise for his representation of the district.
Additionally, the board recognized 12 student athletes who excelled at the Illinois Special Olympics Summer Games, which took place from June 7-9. These athletes stood out among over 3,500 participants, with several earning medals in various events. The board expressed pride in their achievements and gratitude to the Special Olympics athletic directors for their support.
As the school year comes to a close, the board thanked the administrative team, fellow members, students, staff, and the community for their contributions to a successful year. The meeting underscored the district's commitment to fostering student excellence and community involvement.
