Tornado wreaks havoc in Kendall County leaving damage behind

During a recent government meeting, community leaders discussed significant local issues, including the impact of a recent tornado and the services provided by Kendall County 211, a health and human services hotline.

Jen Chabot, the executive director of Kendall County 211, provided an overview of the hotline's operations, which assists residents in need of housing, utility help, and other essential services. Chabot emphasized the hotline's accessibility, available 24/7, and highlighted that housing-related inquiries are the most common, reflecting ongoing challenges in the area.

Following Chabot's presentation, Director Jennifer Hughes reported on the aftermath of an EF1 tornado that struck the region, causing damage along a 16.9-mile path from Bristol to Naperville. The tornado, with peak winds of approximately 100 miles per hour, resulted in downed trees, damaged homes, and disrupted power lines. Hughes noted that while there was significant damage, there were no reported injuries, and emergency crews were mobilized promptly to assess and address the situation.

Hughes detailed the collaborative efforts with ComEd to restore power and clear debris, emphasizing the challenges posed by downed lines and the need for safety precautions. She urged residents to report power outages and avoid touching any downed lines, as the situation remains complex with ongoing recovery efforts.
