Firefighter honored for 25 years of lifesaving service

In a recent government meeting, the Quincy City Council celebrated the appointment of Laura's new deputy, Melanie Pipkins, and recognized Captain Chris Bixell of the Quincy Fire Department for his 25 years of dedicated service.

The meeting commenced with a moment of prayer led by Alderman Bauer, emphasizing the importance of wisdom and conviction for public servants. Following the prayer, the council moved to excuse absent members and approved the minutes from the previous meeting.

Captain Bixell, who joined the Quincy Fire Department on May 24, 1999, has played a pivotal role in various aspects of fire service, including training for technical rescue teams post-9/11. He has maintained his paramedic license and serves as a lead airport firefighter. Notably, Bixell has been instrumental in training over 1,700 citizens in CPR and AED techniques, showcasing his commitment to community safety.

During the recognition, Mayor acknowledged Bixell's contributions with a small gift, expressing hope for many more years of service. Bixell thanked his family for their sacrifices throughout his career, highlighting the personal impact of his commitment to public service. The meeting underscored the council's dedication to honoring local heroes and fostering community engagement.
