Community Divided Over Controversial Building Proposal

During a recent government meeting, community members voiced their concerns regarding a proposed variance plan for a new development on Croftville Road. The discussions highlighted a divide among residents about the implications of the project, particularly the construction of a large building.

One resident, Carolyn Schmidt, expressed her support for the development, noting the positive impact of the existing cabins owned by Mike and Teresa, the developers. She raised concerns about rainwater runoff affecting her property but emphasized her overall approval of the project. Schmidt also urged the board to advocate for reduced speed limits on the road to enhance safety for residents.

Conversely, Julia Rau articulated strong objections to the variance, arguing that the proposed three-story building, measuring 94 feet long and situated just 26 feet from the centerline, would not align with good stewardship of the land. Rau acknowledged the quality of the existing cabins but insisted that the scale of the new construction was excessive. She suggested that a more modest garage within the existing setbacks would be acceptable and pointed out that the developers have ample land that could be utilized without requiring variances.

The meeting underscored a desire among residents for a balanced approach that considers both development and community well-being, with many calling for further discussions to ensure that the project aligns with the interests of all stakeholders involved.
