Gravel discovery sparks major construction plans in Forest City

In a recent government meeting, officials reported significant progress on infrastructure projects in the region, particularly concerning the development of a new shop property north of Forest City. The team has begun grading the site, with the footprint already staked out and topsoil being stripped in preparation for further construction.

Additionally, a successful gravel exploration was conducted at Sunnyside, where test holes revealed promising deposits of gravel on a ridge at the southern part of the property. The findings suggest the potential for extracting approximately 40,000 tons of gravel, contingent on the soil conditions as they expand their drilling efforts. This gravel will be crucial for the upcoming road resurfacing program, which is expected to be heavily reliant on gravel next summer.

Concerns regarding crop damage were addressed, as part of the area is currently farmed. The team is prepared to compensate for any disturbances caused during the extraction process, with the farmer expressing a willingness to collaborate.

The meeting also highlighted a vacancy for a grader operator in Buffalo Center, with the application window closing on the 17th. Officials noted that they are receiving a few applications, indicating ongoing efforts to fill this critical position. Overall, the discussions underscored a proactive approach to infrastructure development and resource management in the area.
