City ramps up mosquito spraying amid storm challenges

During a recent government meeting, officials provided updates on several key community issues, including traffic signal functionality and mosquito control efforts.

The discussion began with an overview of the current status of traffic signals in the area. Most intersections are operational; however, several with twisted mast arms remain nonfunctional. Specifically, the intersections at Dixie and Brazoswood, Plantation and Sycamore, Yaupon and Old Angleton, and Oak Drive are experiencing issues. The Old Angleton intersection is currently flashing due to lost signal heads, while Oak Drive is still operating under stop sign regulations.

In response to public health concerns, officials reported that mosquito spraying has commenced in collaboration with the county. While truck-based spraying is ongoing, aerial spraying has not yet been implemented due to weather-related challenges. The county has requested state assistance for aerial spraying, which typically occurs at night. Officials noted that they had recently acquired mosquito control chemicals after a delay caused by a storm, and they plan to resume spraying operations promptly. The spraying schedule will alternate between the city and county, ensuring that one entity is actively spraying each night.

This proactive approach aims to address both traffic safety and public health concerns in the community, reflecting the government's commitment to maintaining infrastructure and ensuring resident well-being.
