Community rallies for urgent 183 corridor improvements

During a recent government meeting, officials unanimously supported a motion to advance a corridor study for the US 183 highway in Leander, Texas. The study, presented by representatives from Kimley Horn, aims to outline a vision for the future of the corridor, which is currently a four-lane roadway with a two-way left turn lane.

Lance Ballard and Ryan Graves from Kimley Horn emphasized the urgency of the project, highlighting its alignment with the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's (CAMPO) regional transportation plan. The study seeks to create a prioritized list of proposed projects that could secure federal funding without immediate obligations for implementation.

The meeting included discussions about the potential transfer of maintenance responsibilities from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to the city, particularly as improvements to the frontage roads are anticipated.
