City Council Approves Major Repairs for Historic Brown House

During a recent city council meeting, officials discussed the approval of a contract with LMC Corporation for repairs and improvements to the exterior of the historic Thomas and Mattie Brown House. The estimated cost for the project is $89,791.84, facilitated through a cooperative purchasing contract with BuyBoard.

City representatives outlined the scope of work, which includes essential repairs such as painting, soffit repairs on the porch, and window restorations. However, plans to install handrails were scrapped due to concerns about modifications to the historic structure.

The council emphasized that the Historic Review Commission (HRC) would need to evaluate the proposed wood repairs and painting due to the project's scale. The adjustments to the contract reflect a commitment to preserving the integrity of the historic site while addressing necessary maintenance. The city manager is authorized to execute all necessary documents to move forward with the project.
