City plans outdoor movie night to unite community

In a recent government meeting, city officials discussed several key resolutions aimed at enhancing community engagement and infrastructure improvements.

One of the highlights was the approval of a resolution allowing the temporary closure of city streets for the Heart Theater's outdoor movie night scheduled for August 8. The event, which aims to foster community outreach, will feature a screening of \"Honey, I Shrunk the Kids\" on a portable movie screen. Organizers plan to close roads around the square from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM, with the movie starting at 8:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and non-alcoholic drinks, and food vendors may also be present.

Additionally, the council approved a resolution for the replacement of City Hall doors and frames, with the project being within budget. The replacement will include new locking systems and other enhancements.

Another significant discussion involved the authorization to purchase a 2023 Ford F-150 responder vehicle, which came in at $64,000, exceeding the budgeted amount of $50,000. However, officials noted that the vehicle's cost includes necessary upfitting for emergency services. The council expressed support for the purchase, emphasizing the importance of securing the vehicle promptly to avoid potential price increases.

Lastly, the city plans to apply for a Rise Implementation grant program, which would provide $498,000 for housing development and stormwater improvements. The city is required to match 25% of the grant, amounting to $124,500. The council unanimously supported moving forward with the grant application.
