Communities unite to end veteran homelessness with data-driven solutions

In a recent government meeting, Roseanne Hagerty, president and CEO of Community Solutions, presented a compelling case for the ongoing efforts to reduce veteran homelessness across various community types—suburban, urban, and rural. Highlighting the collaborative and data-driven strategies employed, Hagerty acknowledged the significant progress made by federal partners, including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Central to the discussion was the adoption of the \"1 team approach,\" which emphasizes coordinated actions and tailored services aimed at providing holistic housing solutions for homeless veterans. Community Solutions, a national nonprofit organization, supports over 140 communities across 38 states in their mission to eradicate homelessness. Hagerty outlined the organization's goal to reach a tipping point by the end of 2026, where homelessness is recognized as a solvable issue, and measurable reductions are achieved in a critical mass of communities.

A key initiative, known as Built for Zero, employs a rigorous data-driven methodology that transforms local homeless response systems. This approach includes the creation of a comprehensive, real-time list of individuals experiencing homelessness, which has proven to be a transformative tool for communities striving to end veteran homelessness. The meeting highlighted the potential for these strategies to create lasting change and improve the lives of veterans nationwide.
