During a recent government meeting, Don Francisco Trujillo, president of the Fiesta de Taos, provided an update on the upcoming 2024 Fiestas and discussed a potential succession plan for the Fiesta council. Trujillo, who has been involved with the council for 43 years, emphasized the importance of the Fiestas as a longstanding community tradition that has evolved from its Catholic origins since the village's incorporation in 1934.
Trujillo noted that all advertising for the event is prepared and set to launch on Thursday, with financial support from the county's board of commissioners. He expressed gratitude towards Jessica Stern and the county for their ongoing assistance with funding.
The Fiesta council, established in 1980, has managed the event for over four decades, taking over responsibilities from various civic organizations due to concerns regarding the separation of church and state. Trujillo explained that the council has successfully handled vendor operations and financial management, with the town of Taos covering operational expenses.
However, he highlighted that the only remaining issue is the pending funding from the town, which is crucial for the successful execution of the Fiestas. The council is optimistic about resolving this matter to ensure the event proceeds as planned.
