Police ramp up park patrols amid rising crime concerns

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed ongoing public safety efforts in local parks, highlighting a significant increase in arrests and citations related to unlawful activities. Ward 1 reported a 22% increase in citations and arrests year-over-year, while Ward 6 saw a staggering 54% increase, and Ward 5 reported a 66% rise. The discussions also noted approximately 32 narcotics-related arrests in the parks over the past month, with methamphetamine and narcotics paraphernalia being the most common substances involved.

Concerns were raised regarding public safety in dog parks, specifically at Barkin Basin Park, where reports of aggressive pit bulls attacking smaller dogs were discussed. Officials emphasized the importance of community reporting and promised to investigate the situation further.
