City Council Advances Major Traffic Projects Ahead of School Year

In a recent government meeting, officials provided updates on several key infrastructure projects aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the area.

Construction is currently underway for two new traffic signals approved by the council, with progress reported as \"moving along well.\" The signal at Telegraph and First Tee is seeing the installation of poles, while underground work is nearing completion at George Washington Boulevard. Officials expressed confidence that both projects will be completed before the school year begins, despite concerns about potential supply chain issues.

The 3650 South interchange is expected to be finished by the end of July, with traffic already diverted onto a new bridge. Minor repairs are ongoing to address soft spots on the ramps, but overall, the project is on track for completion. Funding for this interchange has been a collaborative effort, with approximately $7 million from the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), $2.5 million from the state legislature, and $3.3 million from city funds.

Additionally, the I-15 Main Street interchange project is anticipated to wrap up by the end of the year, with current construction allowing for uninterrupted traffic flow.

A new sewer project on Washington Fields Road has also commenced, aimed at upsizing existing infrastructure. The project is expected to take 30 to 35 days, with traffic control measures in place to minimize disruptions.

Council members discussed ongoing traffic challenges, particularly at the intersection of Washington Taft Road, and suggested improvements to alleviate congestion. They also highlighted the importance of exploring grant opportunities for traffic studies and enhancements in busy areas, such as the segment from Telegraph to 200 West.
