Unsafe Structure Violation Sparks Urgent Cleanup Action

In a recent government meeting, officials addressed significant property violations concerning unsafe structures and compliance with building codes. The first case discussed involved Quays N. and Karen L. Hassan, whose property at 11201 Southwest 56th Court was flagged for unsafe structure violations under section 116 of the local code. The city had previously requested a continuance in July, as the contractor had applied for demolition permits to rectify the situation. However, there has been no communication from the contractor or the homeowner, who is currently hospitalized.

Officials noted that the property posed a biohazard risk due to rodent feces and urine contamination, necessitating cleanup and further demolition work. A $150 administrative fee was imposed, with a 15-day deadline for the contractor to pick up the necessary permits and a completion deadline set for October 30. If compliance is not achieved, fines will be retroactively applied from the date of non-compliance.

The meeting also addressed another case involving Tings Bridle Collection Inc. at 9650 Sterling Bridal, where a permit for a first-time tenant certificate of occupancy was required. Notices for this violation were sent via certified and regular mail, ensuring that the property owners were informed of their obligations under the Florida Building Code.

The discussions highlighted the ongoing challenges local authorities face in enforcing building codes and ensuring public safety through compliance with regulations. Further evaluations and potential fines will be revisited in November for both cases if compliance is not achieved.
