Governor honors volunteers for heroic dog rescue efforts

During a recent government meeting, the extension office highlighted the annual Governor's Volunteer Service Awards, recognizing individuals who exemplify the spirit of volunteerism. This year, two recipients, Lynette Steffey and Beth Wilson, were honored for their extraordinary efforts in locating a lost dog named Norman, demonstrating remarkable dedication to their community.

Lynette Steffey, who traveled from Wilmington, devoted six months to the mission, sacrificing personal time and comfort to rescue the canine. Her actions showcased exceptional resilience and leadership, making a significant impact on her community. Similarly, Beth Wilson, commuting from Cary, also invested countless hours and personal resources to reunite Norman with his family, reflecting her deep empathy and commitment to community service.

Both recipients will receive certificates and lapel pins, which will be mailed to them, as they were unable to attend the meeting in person. The extension office announced that nominations for the 2024 awards will open in January, encouraging community members to recognize deserving individuals through electronic submissions or direct contact.

The meeting also included procedural motions, with the agenda and consent agenda being approved unanimously by the commissioners, ensuring the smooth continuation of local governance.
