Deputies tackle rising crime with dramatic arrests and pursuits

In June, local law enforcement reported a total of 422 calls for service, a decrease from 449 in May. The deputies responded to six assaults, four thefts, and two incidents of property damage. A total of 30 arrests were made for various offenses, alongside 186 traffic stops, which resulted in 49 traffic citations—the highest monthly total for the year.

Noteworthy incidents included a third-degree DWI arrest on June 1. Deputy Old Dean stopped a vehicle on Polk Street due to an active warrant for the registered owner. Upon interaction, Deputy Aldine observed signs of chemical impairment, leading to the driver’s arrest after failing field sobriety tests. The driver recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.22 and was booked for DWI and the outstanding warrant.

On June 2, Deputy Sorensen stopped a speeding vehicle on Durant Street, where the driver was found to have a canceled license. A formal complaint was filed for driving after cancellation.

Deputy Barrett made an arrest for a harassment restraining order (HRO) violation on June 4. Deputies responded to a report of a male violating an HRO by approaching a residence. A probable cause warrant was issued after confirming the male's presence near the property.

Lastly, on June 29, Deputy Borgeson attempted to stop a vehicle driven by an individual with a revoked license. The driver fled but was eventually apprehended after Deputy Borgeson deployed a taser during a confrontation. The male was charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, gross misdemeanor obstruction, and misdemeanor driving after revocation.

Overall, the month reflected a mix of routine traffic enforcement and significant criminal incidents, highlighting ongoing challenges in public safety and law enforcement response.
