Residents fight back against utility easement project threat

During a recent government meeting, property owners expressed their concerns regarding the SCE easement trail improvement project located between Sumner and 68th. One property owner, representing a group of 14 residents, highlighted their long-standing relationship with the utility company, Standard Pacific, which had previously indicated a willingness to return the easement land to the homeowners.

The property owner described the current state of the easement, noting that it contains four aging utility poles that are no longer in use and have become an eyesore for the community. Despite years of communication with SCE, the homeowners reported a lack of response and progress regarding their requests for a quitclaim of the property.

The group of homeowners, who have been paying property taxes on the easement for two decades, expressed their dismay upon discovering that the project had been included in the city’s upcoming initiatives without their involvement. They emphasized their desire to reclaim ownership of the land and their commitment to working collaboratively to address the situation. The meeting underscored the ongoing tension between utility companies and property owners regarding land use and ownership rights.
