Home renovation proposal aims to restore historic charm

During a recent government meeting, the commission discussed a proposal for significant renovations at a historic property located at 512 Mountain Street. The property, which features a large residence built around 1870, is recognized as a contributing building within its district.

Heather Farris, representing the applicant, outlined plans to replace non-original aluminum windows and doors with new designs that will match the original style of the residence. The proposed windows will be of the same dimensions as the existing ones, while the sliding glass doors will be replaced with French-style doors, also designed to be paintable.

In addition to the window and door replacements, the applicant seeks to install new driveway gates and a man gate that align with the historical aesthetics of the property. The proposal also includes landscaping improvements, specifically the installation of a hedge along the southeast side of the residence, as well as the restoration of the existing irrigation system and replacement of dead plants and grass.

Staff members expressed support for the proposed renovations, stating that they align with established guidelines for maintaining the historical integrity of the property. The commission is expected to deliberate further on the proposal in upcoming sessions, with the applicant's representative, Rob McFadden, available for any questions from commission members.
