Student athletes excel with record GPAs and championships

In a recent government meeting, officials celebrated the academic and athletic achievements of local varsity student athletes, highlighting their impressive performance both on the field and in the classroom. A total of 482 student athletes participated across 30 varsity teams, all of which maintained an average GPA exceeding 3.0, with many teams achieving an average GPA of over 3.3.

Among the standout performances, the baseball team recorded a remarkable GPA of 3.99, while the softball teams from Burns and Shelby both achieved a perfect 4.0. The Kings Mountain softball team also excelled, earning the title of Big South 3A conference champions and finishing as state runners-up.

The women's soccer teams showcased their academic prowess as well, with GPAs of 4.0 for Kings Mountain and 3.9 for Shelby. Golf teams also performed admirably, with Crest achieving over a 4.0 GPA and Kings Mountain nearing 3.9. Men's tennis and track teams also received commendations for their strong academic performance, with Shelby's men's track team winning the conference championship and maintaining a GPA over 3.5.

Overall, the meeting underscored the dual commitment of student athletes to both their studies and competitive sports, with officials expressing pride in their accomplishments.
