City plans exciting events for Parks Month celebration

In a recent government meeting, the council successfully transitioned from an executive session back to their regular work session, approving the minutes from the closed meeting with a unanimous vote of 5-0.

City Manager Scruggs highlighted July as Parks Month, announcing a series of community activities aimed at fostering inclusivity and connection through parks and recreation. The month’s theme, \"Where You Belong,\" emphasizes the role of parks in providing welcoming spaces for all. Key events include a fitness class at Browns Mill Recreation Center, a garden party featuring free food and live entertainment, and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to celebrate the reopening of Salem Park. Additional activities such as a trail adventure and a summer camp pop-up are also scheduled throughout the month.

The council welcomed new leadership, introducing Ralph Butts as the new director of code enforcement and Gregory Woods as the new communications director. Woods, who has extensive experience in media and communications, expressed his enthusiasm for joining the team and contributing to the community.

Councilwoman McGrathies announced a nonhazardous waste drop-off event scheduled for Saturday, encouraging residents to participate. The meeting concluded with a sense of community engagement and anticipation for the upcoming events in Stonecrest.
