Yarmouth plans transformative mixed-use development on Route 28

The Yarmouth Community and Economic Development Committee convened on May 14, 2024, to discuss a proposed mixed-use development project on Route 28, aimed at revitalizing a currently vacant lot. The project, presented by representatives from Conserve, seeks to combine retail and residential spaces, enhancing both economic opportunities and community living.

The proposed development will feature approximately 9,985 square feet of ground-floor retail space, alongside 13 residential units on the second floor, including three two-bedroom apartments and ten one-bedroom apartments. The site, located next to the former Giardino's restaurant, is strategically positioned near Mill Creek Park, promoting accessibility for residents and visitors alike.

The design aims to comply with local aesthetic standards, incorporating landscaping and ensuring safe traffic flow for both vehicles and pedestrians. The retail component will house Express Restaurant Supplies, a business transitioning from Iannis, Massachusetts, which will operate primarily as a wholesale supplier with limited retail traffic.

Committee members expressed optimism about the project's potential to stimulate economic growth and provide much-needed housing options in the area. The meeting underscored the importance of community input, with public access to discussions encouraged through both in-person attendance and alternative online platforms.
