Community divided over Browns Mill Crossing development plans

During a recent government meeting, discussions centered around a proposed development project in Stonecrest, Georgia, which has sparked both support and opposition from community members. The project, which encompasses an 8-acre site, aims to enhance local infrastructure and provide new commercial opportunities.

In response to concerns raised by resident Donna Priestley regarding road expansion and infrastructure, developers assured that they would adhere to official Department of Transportation (DOT) plans while the city would manage road repairs. They also addressed financing worries, confirming that they have received preapproval for necessary funds.

Supporters of the project, including local business consultant Darius Moore and resident Ashley Scott, emphasized the potential benefits of the development. Moore highlighted the need for improved dining options to better serve clients, while Scott expressed hope for job creation and enhanced community amenities, such as healthier food options. Scott also praised the developers for their commitment to community engagement and transparency.

Conversely, opposition emerged from residents like Gregory Baranko, who raised significant concerns about existing traffic issues on Browns Mill and Panola Roads. Baranko pointed out that the current infrastructure struggles to accommodate existing traffic, leading to dangerous conditions. He urged caution in approving new commercial developments without first addressing these infrastructure challenges, citing tragic incidents involving local residents.
