Celebrating a Century of Tom's Place Legacy

During a recent government meeting in Lemont, Mayor John Egoskie delivered a heartfelt proclamation honoring Tom's Place, a beloved local tavern that has been a staple in the community for nearly a century. The establishment, originally opened by Thomas Lequeta Sr. on August 10, 1924, has been a family-run business for three generations, currently operated by his son, Mark.

The proclamation highlighted the rich history of Tom's Place, noting its nostalgic ambiance filled with memorabilia and its reputation as a friendly spot for patrons to enjoy a cold beer. The mayor expressed gratitude to the Lequeta family for their long-standing service to the community and announced that a celebration to mark the tavern's anniversary will take place on August 10.

The meeting also included a motion to make the proclamation official, which was unanimously approved by the Village Board of Trustees. Additionally, discussions touched on the iconic sign outside Tom's Place, with commitments made to assist with its maintenance and refurbishment.
