Residents rally against controversial zoning change proposal

In a recent government meeting, community concerns regarding a proposed zoning change for a Dollar General store were brought to the forefront. Residents expressed their discontent over the lack of notification about the zoning proposal, which aims to convert parts of Stanley Road to commercial use.

Derby Wheeler, a local resident, highlighted the insufficient outreach by the county, noting that only 18 out of 69 residents in the affected area received notification letters. This prompted Wheeler to take action by distributing flyers throughout the neighborhood, which led to a significant turnout at a community meeting where approximately 25 residents voiced their opposition to the zoning change.

Wheeler presented a petition with 62 signatures from residents opposing the development, emphasizing their desire to maintain the quiet and residential nature of their neighborhood. The meeting underscored the importance of community engagement in local governance, as officials acknowledged the need to balance business interests with the safety and welfare of residents.
