City approves crucial traffic improvements to enhance safety

During a recent government meeting, Alderman Doherty addressed concerns regarding traffic safety on Mill Road, highlighting the need for improvements to mitigate accidents and enhance navigation for drivers. Doherty noted that residents had expressed frustration over the volume of lost traffic in the area, which has led to numerous near-misses and property damage. He emphasized that engineering studies had been conducted to explore various solutions, ultimately concluding that the proposed changes were the most effective and economical option.

Doherty shared specific incidents, including a recent case where a vehicle nearly collided with a home after making a U-turn in a yard. He reported that there have been at least seven documented incidents over the past six years, with accidents occurring at all hours, underscoring the urgency for action. The proposed improvements aim to prevent drivers from inadvertently entering Mill Road and to enhance overall safety for residents.

The motion to approve the changes was seconded by Alderman Shaw and passed unanimously, indicating strong support from the council for the initiative.

In other meeting highlights, the city attorney announced that absentee ballot drop boxes would be reinstated following a recent Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling, which overturned a previous decision. This development is expected to streamline voting processes in the upcoming elections.
