Community rallies for suicide prevention and support initiatives

A recent government meeting highlighted two significant upcoming events aimed at addressing mental health and suicide prevention in the community. On June 24th, the film \"Paradise in Paradox\" will be screened at Sala for stakeholders. This documentary, available on Amazon Prime, explores the alarming rates of suicide attempts in ski towns and discusses sustainable community initiatives to combat this issue.

Following the film, Commander Danny Roberts will facilitate a work session to engage stakeholders in discussions about local mental health challenges and potential solutions.

Additionally, on July 12th, a QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training session will be held at Station 3 in White Rock from 2 to 3 PM. This training, led by Dr. Alice Bodelson and counselor Lisa from EAP, aims to equip participants with skills to prevent suicide. Limited seating is available, and interested individuals are encouraged to reserve their spots.

The meeting also touched on the importance of effective training and resources, with a participant expressing interest in obtaining materials related to Narcan training for youth. This reflects a broader concern about ensuring that community members are not only trained but also prepared to apply their knowledge in real-life situations.
