Lake Wales Economic Development Plan Wins National Award

The commission also addressed several resolutions and ordinances aimed at improving city operations. Among these was the first reading of an ordinance allowing for the publication of legal advertisements on a publicly accessible website, which is expected to streamline communication and reduce costs associated with traditional newspaper publications. The commission approved this measure unanimously.

Additionally, the commission endorsed a resolution regarding the membership apportionment plan for the Polk Transportation Planning Organization, which is a necessary step for compliance with federal regulations following the latest census. Another resolution was passed to declare the city's intent to reimburse itself from tax-exempt debt for upcoming projects, further indicating proactive financial planning.

City Attorney discussions included historical context regarding utility service areas and the need for expanded water lines to support future growth. The city manager reported on recent accolades, including a national award for an economic development strategic plan, which was developed in collaboration with the Central Florida Regional Planning Council. This plan aims to enhance economic competitiveness along Highway 60, with a $240,000 grant awarded for its implementation.
