City Council Moves to Support Local Asylum Seekers

During a recent Spokane government meeting, council members discussed a resolution aimed at supporting families seeking to remain in the area, particularly those who are asylum seekers and are already contributing to the community. The resolution emphasizes the importance of providing a legal pathway to citizenship for these individuals, who have established ties through work and family in Spokane.

In addition to the resolution, the council confirmed two key appointments: Christine Schischler as the permanent Retirement Director and Laz Martinez as the permanent Director of Information Technology. Both have been serving in interim roles and received support from the relevant boards for their appointments, which will be finalized on December 12, with their official start date set for December 19.

The meeting also touched on budgetary matters, with the council noting the completion of its first midyear budget adjustment, which includes reductions.
